Spanish Plays

Taking a foreign language was so much fun. I have been taking Spanish for 3 years. Each year you do a project sort of thing, for Spanish language week. First years make a poster, second years sell bomb-bombs, and third years perform the Spanish plays. Since I am third year I preformed the Spanish plays. They were a blast. We got the whole day off; out of school and everything. We could sit in Lillywhites and do absolutely nothing all day, except perform our Spanish plays. We could sit in his room and listen to our iPod’s or sleep. I was in Rumplestilskin, the king, which I didn’t even know existed till we read the plays. I wanted a different part but I got stuck with the king that says 4 lines. I talked to the person that got the part that I wanted; he said that he didn’t even want this part. I had so much fun we got to leave early for lunch, we got to go to no classes, and it was awesome. My play was about this crazy, insane, and weird freak: Rumplestilskin. He has a special talent he can spin straw to gold. That would be cool to be able to do. Well, anyways, he has a high price. He wants the Miller’s Daughter’s bracelet and necklace, he wants a third thing but she doesn’t have anything to give her. She later has a daughter and he wants the baby. She doesn’t want him to take it so she makes him a deal, saying that if she can guess his name in three days then he will leave her alone. She can’t come up with his name, she later asks the messenger to spy on him and find out his name. He does and tells her it is Rumplestilskin. And they live happily ever after, except Rumple boy. If you haven’t taken a foreign language yet, then you need to. It isn’t as fun as going to the country and experiencing it for yourself but it is a blast.

Alphabet Story

This is a story, or at least a want to be one, that uses every letter in the alphabet.

A fat, ugly, girl walked down the cracked sidewalk, she looked like she was in pain.
Betsy asked “What’s wrong.”
“Certainly nothing,” replied the huge girl, “I am just trying to be alone,” she said with so much anger.
Dancing down the cracked sidewalk, Betsy’s brother came, minding his own business.
Edwin was this dancing kid’s name. He passed both of them by without taking any notice to their existence.
Fortunately, Betsy didn’t even notice her brother as he danced pass on the cracked sidewalk.
Gracefully and peacefully Betsy and the ugly girl walked down the cracked sidewalk as they talked about why the ugly girl was sad.
“Ha-ha, look at that fat ugly girly,” chanted Isaac.
Isaac, a total jerk, has been teasing the fat girl since second grade.
“Jerk,” the fat girl yelled out after him. “See that is the reason I am so sad.”
“Kind, honest, and loving people are hard to find these days,” said betsy.
“Laugh all you want,” said the girl
“McKenzie, stop it, I wasn’t laughing I was supporting you.”
“Now you tell me,” said McKenzie.
“Oh, my, gosh, you are so hard to talk with, you take the simplest thing as criticism.”
“Please, you’re the one that is hard to talk to.”
“Quit it fly.” McKenzie screamed.
“Rat spitting mongoose, I am out of here, you’re on your own to deal with Isaac he can kill you for all I care.”
See you later, NOT!
Toward her house Betsy traveled. “That girl is so sensible,” she said to herself.
“Very selfish she is; I am never going to talk to her again, lunatic.” McKenzie said to herself;
“Weird how quickly people can hate someone.”
X-rays show that everybody body is the same.
Yet, people make fun of others just because they don’t like them.

100 years

This is for a week I missed. Have you ever thought on how hard it must have been to live 100 years ago? It would be so hard. If you had to cook a snack or something just for dinner you would have to get a fire going in the stove and then you would be able to cook something. My families microwave broke a couple of weeks ago and it was so weird and time consuming to just warm up a piece of chicken or if you wanted to warm up some spaghetti you would have to put the spaghetti in a pan then carefully heat it up and while you are doing that you have to heat up the sauce again on the stove and wait for it to be done. Now days we get the noodles then put the sauce on it and stick it in the microwave for a minute and vwala, it is ready. Back then you didn’t have a dryer or washer so you had to wash each thing by hand and now we wine if we have to put some soap in the washer and turn the knob, it is so hard. Writing this reminded me of a journal we had to write for English class. We watch this video were this guy talks about if anybody has to wait because there cell phone isn’t working, and instead of just waiting till we have reception people now day just freak out because there cell phone isn’t working. Watch this video if you already haven’t. http://copywriterunderground.com/2009/02/11/we-live-in-an-amazing-amazing-world-and-its-wasted-on-the-crappiest-generation-of-spoiled-idiots/
Well back to the topic, I can’t even imagine living 100 years ago where, yes; you did have to go all the way outside to a wooden building to go to the bathroom. Can you imagine, those of you that have gone on scout camp, to go your life going to the bathroom in a smelly, stinky, poop filled outhouse. YUCK!!!!! Can you imagine not have a shower just down the hall from your bedroom. Instead you have to go to the river and bathe. There was no running water and no hot water unless you wanted to go chop some fire wood and put it in the stove, get a fire burning and boil the water. That would take, from people now days point of view, a lifetime. I was watching Smallville, you might have seen it, well anyways Clark Kent loses his powers and he is amazed on how hard it is to just get through the day. We are kind of like Clark because we take everything for granted and don’t realize how hard it was to live a long time ago.

Edmonton mall

Has anybody been to the West Edmonton Mall, probably not because it is in Canada? Well, it is probably, not probably, but definitely the coolest mall I have ever set foot in. It has two stories; sounds normal, well not exactly. It stretches out for about a mile and has like two or three of each store. The mall has a map and on the map is a index in alphabetical order, so when you look at it there is a whole list with about 5 stores for the really popular ones listed right after another. There was like 6 McDonalds and 5 Arby’s. The mall has like four food courts so you are always close if you are hungry. I have been to the mall twice now; my cousins live in Edmonton so every time we go there we go to the mall. The first time I went we actually did stuff. The second time I just played glow-in-the-dark mini golf.
When my family and I were searching for the mall it wasn’t that hard to miss. They have 3 or 4 exits of the free way to get to it. We went in the amusement park entrance. The ceiling is about 300 feet high because it can’t be too low or the people riding the rollercoaster the size of colossus, with the double loop-de-loop, heads would smash against the ceiling. We walked through the park admiring all the rides. There were about as many as Lagoon, but all compacted into the biggest room ever, and this is all still INSIDE the mall.
There was laser tag, mini golf, bungi-jumping trampolines, oh, can’t forget my favorite part, the inside water park. I didn’t get to go and do anything because it did only cost 50$ per person for the day. The water park had a glass roof and about 30 water slides. There where water slides that funneled around and around until you fell out the bottom, there were tube water slides, there were water slides that went straight down for 100 feet, there were curly ones and a huge pool just like surf n’ swim with the waves and all. There was a brochure for the water park classifying the water slides by scary to non-scary. The water park made Lagoon-a –beach look like a backyard pool. The mall had its own pirated ship and a sea lion show. There was a submarine you could take a ride in. There were water crafts that you played water bumper cars. The mall had like 5 hotels and the pictures of them were awesome. There was an ice skate rink. And all of this is still INSIDE the mall. Now this is a mall worth going to. There is a ton of stuff to do besides shopping. If any of you ever go anywhere near Edmonton definitely go to the mall. These are some of the pictures of the mall.

Persuasive essay

All data contained in this essay is not completely true.
“Car crash kills 6 people.” This is a natural heading from a local newspaper after a group of teenagers obtain their license. I have heard that you are planning on changing the law that you have to have your high school diploma in order to get your license. I think that the legislative should peruse the new idea and make it a law. There are countless reasons that it should become a law. One, the streets would become safer, two the maturity level is higher when you graduated than when you begin high school, and lastly it motivates teenagers to earn their high school diploma. I think that it is a one of a kind idea, to have teenagers wait till they till they earn their high school diploma to be able to drive.

First off, if the law is changed than the streets will be a lot safer. When you turn sixteen teens have the privilege of earning their license. When teens turn sixteen they are so excited to acquire their license they don’t care how fast they go or any of the other laws for driving that are commonly abused. If you make students wait till they earn their high school they are more likely to be careful, thus the streets will be safer. 80 percent of crashes occur with drivers that have earned their license in the last 6 months. My sister got killed in a crash 3 months after she got her license. When teenagers grow up, their maturity level increases, causing a variety of good consequences.

Secondly, teens are more mature after high school than they are before high school. Experts say that when teens are at the age of 16 they are not mature enough to handle the stress and control of driving. Those teenagers that wait until high school have an 89.56 percent chance of surviving till they are 60. Maturity in the dictionary means you are fully developed and are in perfect condition. If the legislative changes the law, teens will be more mature and they will be more careful. I think that the legislative should make young adults wait till they acquire their high school diploma.
Last but not least, it will give students a beneficial reason to work hard and earn their diploma. If teens can have a good reason to obtain a high school diploma than they will work harder and get exponential grades in high school. Dr. Johnson states that, “If young adult have a good motivation, they are more likely to reach their goals in life.” 90 percent of teens will get their high school diploma if they have some kind of reward to motivate them to reach it. In the past if somebody wants me to work for something, I will get it done a lot faster if I have some kind of reward, or in this scenario you are able to get you high school diploma. Some people might say in controversy that it would make parents have to drive them to school, but if the parents make the kids walk or ride the bus then it won’t cause an issue.
In conclusion, as you can see, there are a lot of reasons why you should make teens wait to drive till they earn their high school diploma. The streets will be a lot safer, teenagers are more mature when they graduate than when they turn 16, and it will give students at high school a good reason, similar to a reward, to get their high school diploma. You should definitely change the law. So what do you think?

Persuasive Essay

I can't figure out how to keep the paragraphs, sorry.

Pounds of textbooks, binders, and other meaningless school supplies strain down against his shoulders; salty sweat builds up under the black straps of his backpack. He is on his way home to begin his “piles” of homework that has accumulated through his normal school schedule. Fairfield Jr. High is on a regular 7 period Jr. High schedule. The regular schedule consists of 7 periods in a day, the same every day. It has been proposed that Fairfield Jr. High transfer over to the block schedule. The block schedule consists of A/B days, four different classes each day, each day having 90 minute periods. I think that it would be beneficial for Fairfield Jr. High to change over to the block schedule. There are many benefits by changing; first, the block schedule gives students and teachers in the classroom more time for the lesson, second it will decrease the amount of homework given daily, and finally it allows there to be more time to complete homework.

The block schedule has the effect of giving students less homework each night. Theoretically, since a block schedule only has 4 class periods a day, the result would be less homework each night, compared to 7 class periods a day; where it is possible to have 7 periods of homework in one night. Four class periods would assist in remembering what homework has been assigned during school because only four class periods have to be remember instead of seven. In a world where a countless number of students are engaged in a variety of extra-curricular activities, Jr. High students don't have that much time to do their Biology notebook, Web Work, reading, current events, term projects, math, band practice, term writing assignments, and a “bunch” of other assignments that are assigned for home. I think that I speak for all the students when I say that less homework each night is a good thing.

A block schedule can also allow more time to complete daily homework for example, if a class is taken every other day; then the students have the extra day, given in a block schedule, to go into the teacher's classroom and ask questions on problems not understood which could be very beneficial. My sister, who is currently on the block schedule in high school, says that it is very helpful to have classes every other day as it allows her more time to ask her teacher questions. More time for homework also allows for more time to work harder and do a better job. In a study from Dave Vawter, a high school teacher, it was found that a variety of schools around the country have switched to block schedule and after two years they asked the teacher and students if they liked it the response to the switch from the teachers and students was quite favorable. This is an important reason to me why Fairfield Jr. High should switch to the block schedule.

Lastly, block schedules give not only just students, but teachers also, more time in class to accomplish or teach the things that need to be taught or accomplished. Consider a 45 min. class that has just have been given an assignment 5 min. before class ends. In a natural response, students vigorously try to complete the assignment when a problem is reached that they have no idea what to do on it. A student is about to go and ask the teacher for help when the bell rings, leaving the student still without an answer to the question. Robert Lyn Canady, a professor at the University of Virginia said:

"It is hard to fit a hands-on activity into a 45 min class period. With longer class periods it gives students more time for hands on activities and to ask questions to fully understand the assignment”.

In the study by Dave Vawter, a similar result of changing to block schedule was a decrease in the amount of “fails”. It makes sense that the amount of fails decreased as the students who didn't have enough time to understand the assignment didn't do it resulting in a zero for the assignment. With more time in each class period it would give teachers more time to teach a specific concept, or the class can have enough time to do in class projects, thereby decreasing the amount of “fails”.

It is said that teachers would have to undergo training in order to handle the longer classes. Even if teachers might have to go through training, I don't think that there would be much change to teaching a longer class period; one of the things that they could do is combine a two day lesson into one. It is also said that 7th graders aren't mature to handle 90 min classes, but in elementary students have gone a whole day in one class, causing their attention span to lengthen through their years in elementary school. Having a class everyday would allow a student to have more consistent exposure to a subject and allow them to come up with better questions to ask the teacher, thus helping them to gain a higher level of understanding.

I believe that it would be in Fairfield Jr. High's best interest to switch to the block schedule. The block schedule allows less homework each night, which is always a good thing; more time to complete that homework, and last but not least, the teachers would have more time to teach the lesson and allow students to have more time to participate in their class. So what are you going to do about this, I am definitely for the block schedule. I look forward to that day when Fairfield Jr. High will be on the block schedule.

This is a timed persuasive essay

I didn't to too well on this one as you will see after reading.
Do you like choosing classes, instead of people saying you are going to take these classes and deal with it? I don’t think it would be fair to all the students if we discarded all the fun electives just because they cost money. Some of my firm reasons are that I like these electives and have enjoyed them through the years that I have taken them. Second, I think these classes’ help you learn in a fun way. And lastly, they don’t cost too much money. I don’t think that it is a good idea eliminating elective subjects. They are fun classes.
I have liked all the electives that I have taken. The electives are a good for not just learning but it is easier to interact with other people. There are some electives that I don’t like, but there are other kids that like those classes, it wouldn’t be fair if we just took out the ones I didn’t like. Maybe we could make the students pay a small fee to be in the class, which would help the funding and cost.
The electives that are at my school are important because they help me learn not just science or math; they teach you a variety of important skill. What if somebody wanted to be an artist when they grew up or a trumpet player; that could never happen if we threw away all the electives? I have learned so much in my band class and would never be able to perfect my talents in band if they were abolished from the schools classes.
The electives give me something to do besides solve endless math problems, or study about cells. Even though these classes take up a portion of the schools budget, they are fun and worthwhile. You can always find different ways of funding the classes, or you could even cut back on what you buy in the classes. There are always ways to help with finance.
DO NOT eliminate the electives; it is not a good idea. All the kids will hate you if you do, cut back in different areas to have enough money to fund all of the elective classes. I would never want to see the electives leave the class list. They all provide some way of learning that math, science, and other standard classes teach. Keep these things in mind as you decide whether to keep the classes of not, don’t focus on just the money, which has nothing to do with the next generation’s education.

Persuasive Essay

I wrote this in Thompson's class.
Your principal is considering a new grading policy that replaces letter or number grades on report cards with pass or fail. What is your position concerning this issue? Write a letter to your principal stating your position and supporting it with convincing reasons. Be sure to explain your reasons in detail.

“Mom I got a 4.0;” The common statement for a kid who works hard and is responsible for his stuff. What if the grading policy got changed and it transformed into a pass of fail. Some kids would like and some wouldn’t. I don’t. If you work hard all term and get an A+ and some other kid just copies off you to “pass” the class. If you change the grading policy test scores will drop, there will be more lazy passengers just there to do nothing, and you have no idea actually how well or poorly in a certain class. There will be many bad consequences.
To start off, test scores will drop dramatically. Students will start to think that there only goal is to get a “P” for pass and that’s all they will work for. When this happens there only goal is to slide right by and do the littlest work just to pass the class. I have seen many people right now that just sit there until there grade all the sudden drops from a D- to a F, then, as if somebody fed them a gallon of caffeine they start working to get there grade back up to a D or C. This is one of the severe consequences that will pertain if you change the grading scale.
Secondly, people will do nothing but wine and cause trouble. If students aren’t actively working they will find something else to do, it might not always bring goodness to the classroom. Teenagers need something to do so they go around distracting the kids that are responsible and are trying to do the best that they can. If you change the grading scale even the kids that are trying to do the best that they can do will drop from the distractions and freak-outs that the teachers will have as a result of immature kids. Bad consequences are bound to occur with changing the grading scale.
Finally, when you get a “P” or an “F” you don’t know how exactly how well you did. As I have mention before if you get a C you can still pass the class. I have done well in school and would never know if I was still perfecting my school work. I like to look at my scores and grades and see if I need to kick it up a notch, so I could get an A. I would never know. I do not like the idea of changing the grading policy.
In conclusion, changing the grading policy will have many bad consequences. Grades for tests will drop dramatically, there will be lazy troublemakers, and kids that want to see the best for their future can’t determine whether or not if you did as well as you would have liked. Would you regret it, if your school dropped to the lowest rank in scores?

Jasper: The Evil Little Kitty

For this blog I am going to write about my crazy, annoying, psycho CAT. First of all I like cats and stuff; we had one the entire time I was growing up. Well this cat, Jasper is his name, is the weirdest cat ever. He lies in the bathtub to relax, he will walk in while nobody is in there and jump into the bathtub and just sit there for hours on end. Jasper is like no other cat I ever seen. You know how cats are stuck up felines; Jasper is the least stuck up thing ever. My little sister, who is in LOVE with cats, obviously is the one that spends all her time protecting him and playing with him. One day when I came home from school there was a cat as white as the first blanket of snow that falls during the winter. I was confused, my dad, who also loves cats, said that we would probably never get a chance. You know the word probably doesn’t mean never. So, that small chance that I was going to find a cat at our house some random day on a random week had come. We all started to think of names, Dewey, Snowy, Fredrick Bingham, George, Bob, Max, Johnny, Mike, Cheesecake, Mitchell, Whitey Tighty, Bob the Builder( that was my brothers), Jasper and a whole bunch of other random names that anybody could come up with. All of them got shot off one by one. I liked the name Max; it seemed to fit that snow white cat. My parents said that we need to find a name that everybody likes. Everybody loved Jasper, except me. I was the only exception. I could convince nobody except good old Mom and Dad (since they pick whatever side that comes to them first because they don’t want to make anybody angry with them, oh no) that Max is a good name. Days and days were passing, weeks and weeks and nobody could agree on a name. Since in had been a really long time my parents went with majority. Jasper was the name of that crazy old cat. I have disliked him ever since. There are a couple of other things that bother me about that cat. For one he steals my contacts lids and goes into the kitchen and runs around sliding it on the floor. He knows the exact sound it makes because when I put on my contacts he will come bouncing away into the bathroom to watch me. If I leave the lid off, Jasper will run off with it in his mouth and begin playing. Eventually he will slide it under the armchair and there it will sit until I go out and lift it up to get it. One other thing that he does is he will hide under my bed and when I walk by and swat at my toes, OUCH that hurts. It is the hardest thing to get him out of there so I try to avoid walking next to my bed. I have never liked cats that much from the day when one cat scratched me right across the arm and drew blood all over. That was when I was 5 so I don’t remember much. This is for last week because I am a procrastinating lazy slacker.

Goals

Goals: a good topic to start off the New Year. I have been contemplating what goals are. I think that they are guidelines, but not just ordinary guidelines, they are things that we would like to be better at or do better at. I am sure that you have you have heard the quote “if you plan to fail, you fail to plan.” I have always liked that quote; it has helped me plan for what is to come. Lately I have written down on paper what I would like to accomplish, I have made an agenda and prioritize on what I need to do. It has helped me get done what I need to do. Goals are sometimes hard to make, but if we can accomplish them then they will better us. Some of the goals that I have set are: Get a 4.0 every term, make drum line, work out more, and be nicer to those around me. I have found some quotes on goals.

To accomplish great things, we must not only act, but also dream; not only plan, but also believe.
---Anatole France

First say to yourself what you would be; and then do what you have to do.
---Epictetus

Thought is the sculptor who can create the person you want to be.
---Henry David Thoreau

Change is the law of life. And those who look only to the past or present are certain to miss the future.
---John F. Kennedy

The greatest danger for most of us is not that our aim is too high and we miss it, but that it is too low and we reach it.
---Michelangelo

You got to be careful if you don't know where you're going, because you might not get there.
---Yogi Berra

I hope that these quotes help you understand goals and I would hope that you will set some meaningful goals, and complete them.
